SICKNESS POLICY:

All children and staff should be excluded from the nursery with contagious diseases.  Staff and parents should inform the nursery of any infectious condition and exclusion should be of the appropriate length of time.  In cases of sickness and diarrhoea staff and children should be excluded from nursery, free from symptoms and eating normally for 48 hours before returning to nursery.  Please see the sickness policy for children.

POLICY FOR SICK CHILDREN

When a child becomes ill at nursery, every effort will be made to contact the parent/carer who will be requested to collect their child as soon as possible. Please ensure you inform the nursery of any change of contact and telephone numbers.

In fairness to all children, staff and parents, it is necessary for any child who is unwell or has a contagious illness to be kept at home.

Please inform the nursery, before 10am, if your child is unable to attend nursery for any reason, this will help to confirm numbers for lunch.

If your child, or someone in your household has coronavirus symptoms, you must remain at home. Only children who are symptom free, have completed the required isolation period or achieved a negative test result should attend the setting.

Children suffering from sickness or diarrhoea must not return to the nursery until at least 48 hours have elapsed from the last bout of sickness/diarrhoea, and they are eating normally. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/diarrhoea-and-vomiting/

Any child with a high temperature must not return to nursery until they has been normal for 24 hours without the aid of medication for example Calpol or Paracetamol.

Only prescribed medication will be given to children at the nursery. Calpol or Paracetamol will not be given to any child to control a high temperature so that they can remain at the nursery. Please ensure that children only return to nursery when they are well enough.

Parents must sign the medicine authorisation book for medication to be administered. Please ensure that all medicines are clearly marked with your child’s full name and given to a senior staff member and not left in your child’s bag.
